fitness assessment and stuff...

ok. so last night i had my 3rd fitness assessment. had one in sept and one in jan. the one in sept determined that i had the body of a 30 year old (and i'm 23 in case you didn't know) and i rated "poor" in all areas such as cardiovascular and strength, but i rated excellent in flexibility (that's the one thing i had...). in jan, i had the body of a 28 year old and rated "fair" in strength, still "poor" in cardiovascular, and still "excellent" in flexibility. last night i found out that i now have the body of a 24 year old, which i will be in about 3 months, so i'm much happier with those results. my cardio is now rated "good" as well as my strength, and my flexibility has increased even more. my % body fat has gone down 2.5%, but is still pretty high.

my trainer also does the "3 site skinfold test" where she literally pinches the fat on my triceps and just above my hip and on my quads. these measurements have gone down consistently. so that makes me feel good.

in jan, i had lost 6.5 lbs fat and gained 5.5 lbs muscle. last night, i had lost another 2.4 lbs fat and gained 2.4 lbs muscle. so....overall i have only lost 1 lb of total mass. i have converted over about 8 lbs from fat to muscle, however. so that is progress.

looking at these results, i need to continue to increase the length of time on the treadmill and take a more serious look at my eating habits. dave and i have completely eliminated bad foods from our house. when we go to the grocery, our checkout lady, ruth, comments that we eat such healthy food. so, i think the problem IS that we just eat too much of it. dave can handle it better than i can b/c he has a more active lifestyle. but i....can't.

so yeah, after we get back from vacation i'm going on weight watchers or south beach. any suggestions??? please give feedback.

i have a dentist appt. and a haircut this afternoon so i'm taking off work early. (only 6 hours to go! YES!) i just hope my vacation doesn't start off with getting a filling.........

i have the sniffles so i got that airborne stuff from CVS on my way in to work hoping to ward off any colds for the weekend. so far it's making me feel pretty good. :) see ya later!

How funny, your blog came up randomly because I was looking for a way for some friends to create their own "website" and found this. But I saw your comments on fitness and weight and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. I'm a runner and have been for years. I've done 9 marathon and last summer rode 300 mile through the Rocky Mountains so I know about working out. You don't seem very happy with your improvements in conditioning, weight loss, etc. The truth is you've done VERY WELL and you should be happy with improvements. I have a website for runners in here in a college town and they/we are all obsessed with what we weigh and our conditioning and I can tell you it's a struggle but your numbers are very good. Forget weight watchers and all those other things and just stick to healthy eating and exercise because as soon as you stop those other programs you'll put the weight back on. What you are doing IS the right thing and it will work long term and you will continue to lose weight and get more and more fit in a reasonable way. I'm not one to to flatter people so this isn't some cheerleader writing, just someone who's been there. You just keep doing what you are doing because you're on the right track.

South Beach worked for me, but you do really have to make it a lifestyle change for long term results....I always just get pregnant so I don't know if I'll be able to keep it up forever or not, but I do know that I will go back to eating only healthy carbs (most of the time) after this baby...Hope your trip is great...be careful!-Jenny

I, like Jenny & Surena, also tried the South Beach diet. I did it so i could lose some weight fast before my trip to Idaho last summer(i wonder why?!. Anyhow, with the diet i looked skinnier, but i lost no fat. then after i "loosened up" on the diet i ended up gaining it all back plus 5 more pounds! Diets like that make you lose muscle, water, and protien-- not fat. So really if you went on an extreme diet like that you would only be counter-acting the good exercising and muscle-bulliding you've been doing. Diets like that are only good if you want a short term fix to a long term problem. Just keep doing what you've been doing! You inspire me! Love, Jessie
