the story of the missing invitation...

a few weeks ago dave got an invitation to go to a coworker, joe's house. he brought the invitation home and piled it in the front room with a bunch of other paperwork and car parts. at some point i cleaned up, moved things. somehow the invitation got lost. i never actually saw it. dave just told me that one day he did actually bring it in the house. anyways, we at least knew that we were supposed to go there today. we thought it was in the evening. so about 1:30 today i called directory assistance to get there number and gave them a call. i got joe's wife sarah. i asked her what time their party was. she said "it starts at 2:00 and we're eating at 2:30". well, needless to say i was shocked. i was in the middle of cleaning. i had just had lunch. (and for someone on a diet who plans out their whole day of eating ahead of time, the prospect of eating twice in an hour is not a good one...) i got off the phone and asked dave, "what kind of party is this? why is it in the middle of the afternoon?" knowing that sarah's expecting a baby, i thought *is this a BABY SHOWER???* i asked dave. he goes, "oh....yeah....i guess maybe that's what it is...i vaguely remember something about a baby on the invitation"............so...............i was upset. i mean, here is this girl that i've only met twice in my life. she's really nice and lives less than 2 miles from me and i'd like to be her friend. and i was going to have to show up to this baby shower with no gift. then we called dave's team leader nick and found at they're having a boy. consequently, i just happened to have a baby boy's outfit in the cedar chest (actually got it as a gift for someone else's baby but then didn't see them till their baby outgrew the outfit, so, yeah...was just hanging onto it for maybe SOMEDAY when we have a baby boy...) so anyways, i wrapped that up and was going to give it to them but i didn't really like it. if i'd had time to get them a gift that would not have been it. so then we went thru our card collection and ended up just giving them a card with money. but i felt lame as i saw all the other couples coming in with cute little gifts all packaged up. ugh. i hate being last minute like that. i can't believe how much my sensitive husband dave has no clue how important baby showers and stuff are...hhhhhhhhhh........

so, then this evening we went out to dinner. we came back. i just finished filing a bunch of paperwork. dave is out working on his engine for the green jeep.

i just got to thinking, perhaps that invitation somehow got mashed into the front room couch. sure enough. it was there. a cute little invitation that said, "we're celebrating! joe and sarah are having a baby boy!" (now, how could dave remember that they were having a party and the date, but not the fact that the whole reason for the party was the baby??????? huh?????)

i love him, i really do. it just goes to show that guys think a lot differently than girls.................
