today ended with another adventure with Dave...we had just finished dinner and he decided he wanted to run to Lowes to buy some wood to build a work bench for his new garage (a.k.a. steve's carport that phil & shan brought out this weekend and helped us assemble...we're so thankful to have a shelter for david to work under and occasionally put cars in, etc.)
so, anyhow, he went out to start the ford truck and it wouldn't start. he jumped it and then told me i better follow him in the toyota so when we got done at lowes i could give him a jump start to come back home. we were in the left turn lane on 334 to get on i-65 and the truck died. so we had to jump start it in the middle of the intersection. nice, i thought...what a bad place to break down. then we got on the interstate and his lights went dim and the truck was backfiring like crazy. semis were flying around us. it was terrifying. we were crawling along near a major system interchange at 45 mph. ....and then it finally died right on a bridge over 82nd st. we had to pull over and get as close to the guardrail as possible. of course the sun had set by now.
then i had to drive the toyota up the ramps onto the back of the ford truck with cars and trucks whizzing past us at probably 80 mph. we then attached the jumper cables again and jumped the ford truck. then we set the e brake on the toyota, as we did not have any straps with us, i got into the truck with dave, and we said a prayer and merged back onto the interstate. we were a mile from 71st st when david decided it couldn't make it that far so he pulled into the median in one of those drives that says "no u-turn". there the truck died again. we praised the lord we were off the road!! the only lights that were really working were the hazards flashing on the toyota on the bed of the truck. we let the truck cool off again and eventually jumped it with the toyota...again. we then pulled back onto the interstate. i had been extremely terrified the whole time. shaking and sick to my stomach with fear. after watching safety videos about what NOT to do (i.e. park in the median, pull off on a bridge, especially in the dark with very few lights and no reflective clothing) i was scared. so we started driving and were going up a grade and i could just see it backfiring and dying again on the upcoming bridge so i began praying that God would give the truck wings and i sang praises to the lord. i sang "blessed be the name of the Lord...He gives and takes away...my heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name..." over and over and over. i prayed with every ounce of my being that we would make it home unscathed. well, after the truck died 3 times on the way out to that median, we made it all the way home with the help of our Lord and His angels, "moving the pistons up and down", david said. i envisioned angels pushing us along. it was beautiful! the truck of course died as we pulled it back into its spot next to the green jeep in the backyard. praise the Lord! Blessed be His name. David said, "well, i guess i wasn't supposed to buy that wood tonight." and I said, "I've gotta go post on the blog..." :)
thinking about it now I have a theory about why this all happened... we paid quite a few bills this past week and we're running low on cash, so we were most likely going to put the wood on a credit card and pay it off as soon as we could. but that's pretty dumb to be adding to the debt when we are trying to pay it off...so, yeah, maybe God just didn't want David to do that...nevertheless we were brought out of some VERY dangerous, terrifying situations this evening and I know that God is the reason we're home safe and sound right now. Praise be to the Lord!
